EatSmart fans will continue to select a Charity of the Month in 2014. Fans will submit short stories about the charity’s mission and why it’s meaningful to them. We began our Charity of the Month donations in 2011.
Loyal EatSmart fan, Alan Ali will be participating in the Raleigh 2015 70.3 Ironman and is raising money for Smile Train as he trains for this impressive endurance event. We will be donating 50 cents to Alan's fundraising page for every new Twitter follower during the month of December. Click here to spread the word!
"Two years ago while volunteering at the IRONMAN Raleigh 70.3 I walked away telling myself I had to do this race one day, I was beyond inspired! My whole life I have doubted myself about a lot of things. It's hard for me to believe that just 4 years ago I weighed 480 lbs and could barely walk up a set of stairs and today I am accepting this challenge. Even though I am not done with my weight loss journey I have learned along the way that my weight does not define me. I will finish this race even if I have to crawl over the finish line!
I have joined Team EMPOWER and I will be raising funds for Smile Train to help give children around the world not only new smiles, but a second chance at life.
Smile Train is an international children’s charity that provides free surgery to poor children suffering from cleft lip and cleft palate. Children born with cleft cannot eat or speak properly, aren't allowed to attend school or hold a job and face very difficult lives of shame and isolation, pain and heartache. Some children are even abandoned or killed—all because of the way they look. Their clefts usually go untreated because they are too poor to afford the simple repair surgery that takes as little as 45 minutes and costs as little as $250 dollars. Yet with your help, we can save these children and give them the life changing surgery they both need and deserve.
Please help me support Smile Train by giving what you can! Click here to access my personal fundraising page."
